Retail Product Packaging
The importance of retail product packaging can
be overstated when it comes to actually selling products. While product quality
is essential, it is irrelevant if the packaging that it comes in isn't designed
in such a way that it catches the eye of the consumer enough to make them stop
and look at it. The fact is that consumers simply do judge a product by its
cover. Additionally, today's products need to be packaged in ways that are
environmentally-conscious, or their sales will suffer. All of this needs to be
balanced with the reality that these things cost money. Let's looks at these
issues a bit more closely.
Custom packing
Custom packing and packaging is incredibly important for
sales. In order to really sell, a package needs to be designed in such a way
that it gets noticed and is easily identifiable from a distance. Most products
are several feet away, but you can always recognize a bag of a Snickers bar
from a significant distance. These kind of successful products have designed
packing and packaging in such a way that our brains begin to associate the
combinations of colors they use with their product. When you see the brown
packaging of the Snickers bar with the blue and white lettering, you don't need
to be able to read it to know what it is or to have an image of Snickers come
up in your mind. The colors are enough. This is successful packing.
